Begin the quad safari by riding off- road on a coastal path which overlooks the endless sea. Follow the tour leader on the mountainous paths which take you deeper and deeper into wild untouched nature. Over there you have the highest chances to meet wildlife and if lucky take unique pictures whilst enjoying the landscape. We are heading to Fodele village, and the views are wonderful. Our short stop to the beach is ideal for awesome pictures with the sea background. As we carry on with a great team spirit the road brings us to a charming village which is covered in green, orange and yellow colours. This is Fodele and the abundance of oranges and lemons is evident. We stop for a minute to admire a unique 1000 year old church which stands outside the family home of the famous painter EL GRECO. Our team will take you to an idyllic café next to the river in the heart of the village to have a short 20mins brake and refreshments. This is also free time, and you may walk the village if you feel active.
On the quad bikes feeling refreshed we are following the tour guide who is taking us to the ‘Ghost Town’ of Achlada. As we are ascending the mountains the views are panoramic, and the feelings are elevated too! Hidden in-between the mountains fortified we see the ‘Ghost Town’ from afar. The scene reminds us of a spooky town in the movies but as we are approaching, we are wowed by the view of the mountain peaks in the horizon. We park the quads and getting ready for exploration! The tour leader will give you information about the village and walk with you it’s roads to explore it together.
There is always good humour and a pleasant atmosphere whilst at the same time this is a good chance to connect with the island’s history and learn a few things about the reasons the village was abandoned and its current affairs. If you are lucky, you may meet some of the very few inhabitants there as they go about their daily routines. Don’t miss out on taking fantastic photos in this abandoned village with crumbling houses and narrow alleys. Our fun quad biking continues as we are descending the mountain on our way back.
